Publishers Weekly
Interweaving a variety of media, Bryant skillfully draws these threads together into a tightly paced, often humorous narrative that drives to a tense end.

Babydolls and Razorblades
A funny and, at times, thought provoking read with a few twists that kept you guessing. The characters were great, especially Cassandra. The author has such a wonderful imagination. This was a fantastic and engaging book.

Sceptical Reading: Urban fantasy, not just for kids
The story is full of twists and turns. To not overload the reader with lots of explanations the chapters are interspersed with pictures, notes, and newspaper clippings. This helps avoiding information dump. The Urban Fantasy setting, the humour, the slightly dark themes surrounding Cuttlefish reminded me of Landy’s Skulduggery Pleasant.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Mrs Feg Fiction
Honestly it's so well written and I really feel deserves to be read by so many more people! If you like fantasy, Harry Potter or detective novels I think you'll really enjoy this.
Book Blog and Candle
The Identity Thief is a dark, gripping and action filled story that will keep you hooked! I can't wait to delve even more into this world!
Splatter Books
Once I had finished those first few pages, I was hooked. It had everything a good middle grade book needs, Intrigue, suspense, believable characters, murder?

Miss Bohemia
Did I mention that it's funny too? I adore the cover and I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next instalment!
Geeky Lorraine
This book is full of twists and turns. You’ve got to be paying attention to everything to keep up, since the main antagonist can change his appearance seemingly at will, so the person at the beginning of the paragraph could be completely different to the person at the end. Yeah, keep up with that one!
Lacy Ace
I would definitely recommend this book, it has everything from a magical adventure, fascinating teenage lives with a huge twist, to keep you guessing!
The Lawyer Librarian
Wow, just wow! This book started with a bang, and did not let up until the final page (and even then I am desperate for the next book!). Alex Bryant has expertly weaved a enchanting world filled with illusion and magic.

The Irresponsible Reader
I had a blast reading this—Bryant’s creativity with the magic involved is only topped by the creativity he displays with the plot. Every time I thought I knew what he was going, he’d pull something off that I couldn’t have expected. Those times where I did know what to expect (there were a couple of them), his execution was still skillful enough that it felt like I didn’t know what was coming. Which is a pretty neat trick, you have to admit.
Mental Storm Books
I was hooked from the first sentence, the descriptive language, use of short sentence structure and the fact that more questions were raised than answers given made me want to read more. Already we see someone lying about being a criminal, and are given the first oh so tantalising glimpse that the books are Special and highly coveted by someone. In the same first chapter we also see a plastic bow made real, the first indication of how magic and sorcery work in this world.
Frost Magazine Westcountry
Bryant has a fantastic and magical imagination

The Identity Thief will steal your mind
If I could give Alex Bryant’s debut novel, The Identity Thief, the first in The God Machine series, a single identity, it would be: Addictive.
Addictive like you want to stay up late reading. Addictive like you wake up early so you can squeeze in 10 minutes of reading before heading out the door. Addictive like you contemplate skipping lunch to read. Addictive like you’re reading while half-walking, half-running on the treadmill. Addictive like…I think you get the point.
Fangirl Friday - The Identity Thief
Firstly I have to point out something that I love - the character names. There's Hector, Helen, Cassandra, Persephone, Jason. Persephone (Foni) is a doctor of Ancient Greece. How can I not love this book just from that alone?
